This pastel piece is a study for Limberlost — an This pastel piece is a study for Limberlost — an exploration of form, mood, and light before committing to the final painting. I was feeling into the textures of ancient stone and the stillness of shadowed spaces, letting the landscape speak in quiet tones. Alongside it, this haiku emerged: Historic granite Tension in distant shadows Birds sing their secrets Sometimes the studies whisper just as loudly as the final works. Misty Paddock 🌫️ 🖼️ 24”x36” 🎨 Ac Misty Paddock 🌫️ 🖼️ 24”x36” 🎨 Acrylic on canvas 🌟 Inspired by a photo of horses on a misty farm 👩‍🎨 July 12, 2017, Haliburton Facing a blank, white canvas I closed my eyes to soothe the migraine, and waited for inner guidance. In my mind’s eye I saw a bright emerald green colour – heart energy. I stepped out of my comfort zone. I took a wide foam brush and applied solid phthalo green straight out of the tube covering the entire canvas. I breathed and felt urged to scan a pile of pictures for inspiration. There it was - a beautiful photo of horses in a misty field. It felt right! I loved the serenity when I looked at that image. The heart was softening. I was drawn and comforted by the scene. I wanted to go there and explore. As lighter greens and yellows were added the headache persisted, my vision blurred, I was thinking too much. I froze in front of my canvas. Change tools. I began to use a large spatula and then changed my mind again. I put down the spatula and turned the canvas around on its side. It was like strumming a harp. My hands slowly and methodically spread thick, creamy, white paint over the deep green hue. It felt very soothing as my whole body moved in perfect rhythm. The migraine dissipated. I sensed that the horses were in the scene standing still in the mist. Was this an illusion, a veil, or a dream? Walk into the painting and be with them in the lush green pasture. What else could be discovered? At that moment I knew the painting was finished. #Painting #IntuitiveArt #Artist

The photo that inspired my painting Limberlost 🌲❄️ Captured during a winter hike through Limberlost in Huntsville, this moment held something sacred. There were so many paths… shadows… stillness… but also a quiet promise of light. I felt it in my heart, in my throat—soothing and welcoming. Dripping water, birdsong, and the earthy scent of wood surrounded me. It was like the forest was full of hidden treasures—waiting to be noticed. This photo was the beginning.
